2020 Union Beach Polar Bear Plunge
Union Beach - Over 70 people lined Union Beach’s beachfront for the annual Polar Bear Plunge. Now in its second year and run by Union Beach Recreation, the plunge is a fundraising event to support the Red Bank based organization Jason’s Dreams for Kids which works to grant wishes of children in New Jersey with life threatening illnesses. With weather unseasonably warm, at approximately 67 degrees, plungers had hoped the water to be slightly warmer than normal only to find 43 degree water waiting for them. A number of first responder dive teams including Monmouth County’s MOCERT Dive Team, North Centerville Fire, Matawan Fire, Hazlet Fire and of course Union Beach Police were among those in attendance to ensure the safety of all the participants.
