Charting A Course Forward

With marinas around New Jersey opening back up, charter boats hope they will sail again.

Atlantic Highlands - As the economic toll of the COVID-19 pandemic continues, local industries such as the Charter Boat industry have taken a particular hit. With Governor Phil Murphy recently reopening marinas in the state, private boat owners may once more use their boats while maintaining social distancing. Several Charter & Head boat captains have banded together to hold a boat parade to raise awareness to the plight of their industry and help foster a discussion on procedures these captains feel would allow them to reopen for business. Some of these procedures include limiting the number of passengers based off square footage of the boat, having an extra crew member who would be in charge of ensuring surfaces are kept clean throughout the boat ride, and extra sanitation stations for passengers to use. The parade began at the Atlantic Highlands Marina and over 20 boats made its way up the Shrewsbury River, turning around by the Rumson Bridge. Like many other businesses in the area, the crews of these charter boats hope to reopen soon, in a safe manner, to continue to spread joy around the community.
